Currently in the middle of their sold-out UK tour supported by Phill Jupitus as Porky The Poet and Mr Ben and The Bens, The Lovely Eggs reveal the mind-melting new video for their new single “Wiggy Giggy”, which is due out on 7″ on Friday 16 February, from the album This Is Eggland, out on 23 February on their own Egg Records.
With the country in the grip of Eggs-mania, they have also announced another extensive UK tour for May, as well as festivals including Festival No. 6, Long Division, Glastonwick and an alldayer at the Ritz in Manchester with The Membranes. Last week they also announced their biggest gig to date at London’s Scala on 28 October (see full list of live date below).
Created and directed themselves out of plasticine and psychedelic visual effects, the video perfectly encapsulates the cosmic odyssey of the song, where “normal” life and always “striving for more” meets something more magical! Where the grass is not always greener whatever side you look from. As guitarist/vocalist Holly Ross explains: “It is inspired by a book we used to read to our son, about a spaceman who went off exploring other planets but every planet he went to, there was something inhospitable or wrong with it and when he landed back on planet Earth he realised that after all his cosmic travels that earth was the best place for him to live. It was pretty deep and we really identified with it. We feel the same about Lancaster where we live. It might be a shithole, but it’s OUR shithole and we love it. Not much goes on up here and there’s not much to do so it’s kind of like living in space. But we like being cosmonauts!”
The Lovely Eggs are one of the most unique, innovative and genuine bands on the British Underground music scene. The Lovely Eggs have been selling out venues across the country without the help of management, booking agent or record label support. With a fierce D.I.Y ethos they have earned a reputation for their ferocious and joyous live shows and for married couple Holly Ross and David Blackwell, being in a band is a way of life.
They return with a mind-melting new album: This Is Eggland, which is heavier and more in-your-face than anything they’ve done previously, Holly and David bringing together a surreal sense of humour and kitchen-sink realism. Working with a producer for the very first time, Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, The Flaming Lips) lends his magic dust to bring out the best of The Lovely Eggs’ explosive blend of motoric krautrock, 60s psychedelia and punk rock attitude, all flipped over and egged up. They create their own world and invite us to join them in Eggland. Be prepared for a joyous riot of a ride.
