After many years of playing in the experimental Berlin pop band Fenster, Jonathan Jarzyna adopted the moniker John Moods. His latest solo project as John Moods is ‘So Sweet So Nice’, which will be released as two EPs: ‘So Sweet’ on 16th April and ‘So Nice’ on 6th August, culminating in one vinyl LP on 6th August via Arbutus Records.
Lead single ‘So Sweet So Nice’ centres around the main theme of the album. Moods says:
“Here I’ve tried to make the happiest song possible about death and transience. It’s a celebration of life through the lens of mortality. A feeling of ecstatic aliveness and balance when faced with the madness of existence. It addresses the passage of time and the seasons and the blooming and decomposing of the natural world. So sweet, so nice; everything is waiting to die. So sweet, so high; nothing ever felt so alive.”
The accompanying video, shot on 16mm film in Paris by filmmakers Noémie Natcher and Pacôme Henry, perpetuates the song’s message:
“Life can be seen as one’s journey to one’s own funeral. What if your entire life were to be a lovely day in Paris? What if one were to encounter one’s own younger self at the end of the day and attend one’s own funeral?”
