Doves have announced the release date for their fifth album, their first album since 2009. Titled ‘The Universal Want’, it will be released on Friday Sept 11th on EMI Records. Alongside the release date announcement, they have also unveiled the second song to be taken from the upcoming album, ‘Prisoners’.
The 3-piece have had two previous Mercury-nominated albums, Lost Souls and The Last Broadcast but had been inactive since 2010. They reformed last year to play in support of The Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall after being invited to do so by Roger Daltrey.
Guitarist Jez Williams said of the album:
“It’s definitely got the stamp of ‘the time’ all over it. Everything on the album is an echo. It’s an echo of what we were going through at the time. Getting back together, the Royal Albert Hall and everything else.”
