On Thursday 25th July, Cinebox at Bolton’s Brass Cat pub will play host to one of the last public screenings of the film ‘The Wheel’.
‘The Wheel’ tells the story of the iconic ‘Twisted Wheel’ and the birth of the Manchester Northern Soul scene, mixing old footage from the clubs with interviews with fans and DJ’s from the time, all sharing what the music and the times meant to them. The passion of the people involved is palpable and when combined with powerful performances from stars of the scene it’s not surprising Blues and Soul magazine described the film as ” Best film about the origins of Northern Soul ever seen…” and rated it as 5 stars. The film’s soundtrack is a soulies dream and takes you back to a day when Music was Everything, before kids and mortgages, when time spent rooting through stacks of dusty records was the only way to spend your days and travelling to venues like The Mecca, the Twisted Wheel and The Golden Torch the only way to spend your nights (and days!)
Created by Steve Donoghue and his mates at TWRF4 (Twisted Wheel Real Fab Four) with the help of Mike from ZB films, the film’s a real labour of love, Steve spent two years interviewing legends from the scene and collecting rare footage and in the process captured a real sense of why so many people, more than 40 years later, still Keep the Faith…
