This Saturday (1st Aug) London-based all-girl garage rock’n’roll band The Franklys join us live in the studio ahead of their Manchester gig at The Castle Hotel and before they carry on gallivanting across the UK and Europe as part of their ‘Bad News’ Summer Tour.
“Live, the band are a blur of lipstick, rock hard riffs and attitude, with The Franklys coming across as four female Holden Caulfields in the process.” Clash Magazine
Squeezing into our cosy studio we’ll have American drummer Nicole Pinto, home grown talent Zoe Biggs who plays bass and Swedish pair Jen Ahlkvist (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), and Fanny Broberg (lead guitar).
These four ladies kicked it all off with a sell-out show at London’s historical 100 Club in 2012.
Between extensive touring, the band released an eponymous debut EP in early 2013, and follow up single ‘Puppet’ in spring 2014, both produced and mastered by Sean Douglas (Adam Ant, Wire) and Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys).
The second single ‘What You Said’ was released digitally in autumn 2014. The band released their new single ‘Bad News’ in April this year and have been touring heavily since May with gigs across the UK, Germany and France, plus festival shows at Isle of Wight Festival, Camden Rocks Festival, Tramlines Festival, Tannerfest and Stortford Music Festival.
The girls have also been sponsored by clothing giants Fred Perry (woo free Fred Perry!), accompanied with a feature on the Fred Perry Subculture website.
