We have trawled through the forthcoming gigs in and around Manchester so you don’t have to.
We believe that if we are going to recommend a gig to you, then it should be exactly that, a recommendation. There’s always plenty of great gigs going on in Manchester, too many to cover them all, but here’s the list of gigs we’re excited about in August 2024.
August 1st – 4th Rebellion Festival – Blackpool UK
The epic punk art festival with over three hundred bands and six stages takes place in Blackpool from the 1st through to the 4th of August. All ages are welcome!
August 3rd – The Pack – Star and Garter
From 7pm, The Pack will be playing Manchester’s The Star and Garter. Expect angst and nostalgia from the punk rock band formed in the late 70’s.
August 3rd – Glitterer – The Deaf Institute
Washington rock band Glitterer are set to perform at The Deaf Institute. Doors will open from 7pm, be sure not to miss it!
August 3rd – The K’s & Lottery Winners – Newton Music Festival
Newton Music Festival takes place at Mesnes Park and The K’s & Lottery Winners are expected to put on a great show. The festival starts at 4.30pm and is expected to run until near midnight.
August 6th – Lair – YES Basement
6-piece psych-soul/funk group from Indonesia are scheduled to play the iconic YES Basement Venue on August 6th, get there for 7.30pm!
August 9th – Thraa – White Hotel
Thraa are launching their new album at the White Hotel in Salford on August 9th, it’ll be a set to remember! Doors open from 7pm.
August 10th – M60 – The Deaf Institute
The four piece indie rock band are back at the Deaf Institute this month. The group with their Manc twang and distinctive guitar led anthemic tracks will be playing from 7pm. Don’t miss it!
August 10th – LACEY – The Deaf Institute
Following the release of their second record ‘This Is All We Are’, the alt rockers from Nottingham will play the Deaf Institute on August 10th. Doors open at 7pm.
August 13th – Red Fang – Gorilla
Portland stoner rock band Red Fang go big on epic riffs and crushing rhythms – they’ll be playing Gorilla on August 13th. Doors open from 7.30pm and it looks to be a promising night.
August 14th – Armored Saint – Rebellion
American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1982 take to Rebellion! The rockers are set to be joined by special guests Tailgunner. Doors open at 7pm. (All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult)
August 15th – Hamish Hawk – Night N Day
Hamish Hawk is back to celebrate the release of his third album, ‘A Firmer Hand’. It’s going to be a rare chance to catch Hamish in such a small venue as he’s going to be playing much bigger venues on his next tour. Prints will be available on the night for signing! Doors open at 7pm and Hamish is expected on stage thirty minutes later.
August 15th – Hana Vu – The Deaf Institute
Hana Vu has been making records since her school days, with a debut and multiple EP’s in her catalogue. The performance at The Deaf Institute is expected to coincide with the release of her second LP – ‘Romanticism’. Doors open at 7pm!
August 15th – Tkay Maidza – YES Pink Room
Now Wave presents Tkay Maidza live at YES The Pink Room on Thursday 15th August 2024. The Zimbabwean born-Australian rapper will take the stage at 7.30pm – Tickets are still available!
August 16th – Oceans On Mars – Night N Day
Oceans on Mars will play the iconic Night N Day Café venue. The five piece alternative-rock band, heavily inspired by 90s grunge, take the stage at 7.30pm.
August 17th – Thomas Dolby – The O2 Ritz
Thomas Dolby’s career has spanned over three decades and includes a GRAMMY nomination. The artist will be playing The O2 Ritz from 6.00pm – it’s sure to be a fantastic evening.
August 17th – Ewan Sim – Deaf Institute Lodge
Ewan Sim, who has seen features from Clash Magazine and radio plays on BBC Introducing + BBC Upload, will be bringing a blend of influences including Soul, Pop and R&B to the Deaf Institute Lodge. Get there for 7.00pm!
August 17th – The Lakes – Academy 3
Emerging from the music rich soil of Manchester, The Lakes are a 4 piece indie band formed in 2017. They’re set to play Academy 3 – Doors open at 7.30pm.
August 22nd – Daily J – YES Pink Room
The band of brothers who have mastered psych-pop. They have taken New Zealand and Australia by storm and will be playing the YES Pink Room in Manchester next. Be sure to get there for 7.30pm.
August 22nd – Neil Frances – Gorilla
Los Angeles based alternative pop duo are due to take the stage at Gorilla this month. Doors open at 7.00pm.
August 23rd – Jess Williamson – The Deaf Institute
The Texan born, LA based singer-songwriter will grace The Deaf Institute with her presence later this month! Doors for this event will open at 7.00pm.
August 24th – Stepford Wives – The Billy Goat Mossley
With their intense stage presence and compelling blend of post-punk, art-rock and psychedelia, Stepford Wives will play The Billy Goat in Mossley.
August 24 – New Oder / Johnny Marr – Wythenshawe Park
Electro pioneers headline a huge homecoming gig in south Manchester’s largest park, with support from fellow legendary musician Johnny Marr for what promises to be an absolutely momentous gig, One not to be missed!
August 25th – Blossoms – Wythenshawe Park
Formed in Stockport by school friends Tom Ogden, Joe Donovan, Charlie Salt, Joshua Dewhurst and Myles Kellock, Blossoms have enjoyed widespread success in the UK. The all day outdoor concert is set to be their biggest show yet, with other acts such as Inhaler and The K’s taking to the stage too.
August 25th – BARDS – Night N Day
BARDS continue to gather interest as they captivate crowds with their modern take on grunge. They’ll be launching their new single at Night N Day from 7.30pm, don’t miss out!
August 26th – Southall – The Deaf Institute
Their third studio album, ‘For the Birds’, is ambitious and captures vigorous, rock ‘n’ roll energy. Southall will be appearing at The Deaf Institute – Doors open at 7.00pm.
August 27th – Kavus Torabi – Night N Day
Known for his work in the psychedelic, avant-garde rock field, the composer will be appearing at Night N Day Café towards the end of this month. 7.30pm is the time to arrive!
August 27th – Killer Mike – Club Academy
Michael Santiago Render, better known by his stage name Killer Mike, is an American rapper and activist. He will be playing at Manchester’s Club Academy and doors open for the show at 7.00pm!
August 28th – The Body and Dis Fig – White Hotel
The Body & Dis Fig are a natural pair. Each has pioneered instantly recognizable worlds of sound and consistently defy boundaries and categorisation. They’re appearing at The White Hotel on August 28th and doors open at 7.30pm.
August 29th – Kristian Bush – Night N Day
The multi-platinum selling, two time GRAMMY award winner Kristian Bush will be taking the stage at Night N Day later this month! Be sure to arrive for 7.30pm.
August 30th – Old Time Sailors – The O2 Ritz
Ahoy there! You are invited to board the Sailorette and join the plentiful crew, the ‘Old Time Sailors’, for a night of footstomping, dancing and singing.
Doors open for the show at 7.00pm, don’t miss it!
August 30th – Infected Rain – Rebellion
Moldovan heavy metal band Infected Rain are scheduled to play Manchester’s Rebellion at the close of the month! Doors for the event will open at 7.00pm.
