Continuing an already crazy year for Grimes, on the eve of her next European tour she is premiering the incredible new video for ‘Genesis’.
Releasing the album Visions earlier this year (4AD/Arbutus), to near universal praise, Grimes has barely stopped since; she’s graced numerous magazine covers, made her first live TV performances in both the UK and the US, played shows across three continents (including a train tour of Canada with Diplo and Skrillex) and has just been nominated for the prestigious Polaris Prize in her native Canada.
Teasing her fans with a trailer for the video earlier in the week, the full version is now online. Set in the Californian desert, it’s a futurist tour-de-force, directly inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s painting, The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things, while making nods towards the trash-can glamour of Jean Paul Gaultier and the post-everything surrealism of Jamie Hewlett’s Tank Girl.
Having just played in Japan last weekend, her next trip to Europe this month will focus mainly on the UK with an appearance in the Dance Tent at Reading and Leeds confirmed this weekend and two long sold out shows at London’s Heaven among the shows scheduled.
After the European tour, she’s back to North America for a comprehensive tour with a lot of shows already sold out before return to Europe to play at In:Motion in Bristol before heading off for a run of dates all around the mainland. She caps the year off with her first shows in Australia and then plays Coachella’s inaugural cruise which sets sail for the Bahamas and Jamaica in the middle of December.
