Fresh from releasing their much praised debut UK release, the album ‘Everything’s A Thread’ on Full Time Hobby, Brisbane based THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS are making the long trip over from Australia’s East Coast for their first proper jaunt around Europe.
Keyboardist and singer Peter Benoth is looking forward to the trip to say the least- “I’m so excited that I’m conveniently ignoring the fact that we have to travel a day and half to get there, arriving so tired and angry that you forget the fact that we are lucky enough to fly like a beautiful shiny bird across the world just to play music. Blessed be the Wright Brothers!”
Like all the best coastal albums, ‘Everything’s A Thread’ is brimming with sparkling, sun kissed sounds moving from playful harmony filled summer psych nuggets, to electronic sheened pop, kraut-pop and hard riffing cosmic rock, evoking an uncanny vibe like mist resting on the ocean just before sunset. Live the band really impress – more raucous than on record with their four part harmonies at the fore.
To mark this monumental moment in Australian rock history the band are sharing a video for their epic and motorik flavoured new single ‘State Of Unrest’. Featuring a mystery drumming cape crusader taking in some of their native scenic surroundings (Mount Coolum) and looking like Phil Collins if he’d joined the Beta Band. Local Bushwhacker may have been used in the making of this video. “We bought him fish and chips with an egg on the side” say the band on recruiting the star of the video, who is a musician friend who goes under the name d-Wizz. “Every morning when we were recording the album we had coffee on the deck which has a great view of the mountain, so we figured it would be a great idea to film up there”.
