2:54 -sisters Hannah and Colette Thurlow- have debuted a special cover version of Seal and Adamski’s Nineties classic, ‘Killer’. Currently main support to the XX on their European comeback tour, they just premiered the surprise track online, with Colette commenting, “There’s a nostalgia to ‘Killer’ that each member of the band identifies with. We grew up listening to Seal. ‘Kiss from a Rose’ and ‘Crazy’ are such big songs. We thought it would be interesting to re-work a pop song and put a 2:54 spin on it. The lyrics are really moving too; melancholic and tough. To me it feels like a song about hope and solidarity.”
2:54 have become one of 2012’s most notable breakthrough bands, releasing their debut album on Fiction in late May to fevered critical acclaim, and touring the world with the likes of champions like Wild Beasts, The XX, and The Big Pink. After an epic month-long US headline run, and a hectic summer making their mark on all the best festivals, including celebrated sets at Reading & Leeds, End of the Road and Bestival, they resumed their show-stopping trek with the XX before releasing new single ‘Sugar’ at the end of the month. Next month the two bands join forces again, for an amazing US adventure together, before 2:54 head back to blighty for a full UK headline tour taking in 11 dates across the country, with a penultimate show at London’s XOYO on November 7th .
