Blak Rainbow
Cassette Store Day comes but once a year, and for its third installment on 17 October 2015 Blak Hand Records are delighted to present Blak Rainbow, a collection of the North-West’s best garage rackets and psych kaleidoscopic gems.
Side A kicks off with the lo-fi pop-playfulness of Antelopes’ Oh Caroline. Rumbling bass bounces with choppy jangles of guitar and impossible-to-stay-still-to beats. Following on is Dreamin’ Blue, a surf-psych ditty from Liverpool’s very own answer to Link Wray, Beach Skulls. Next up is Manc newcomers Freakout Honey’s shimmering lament Disneyize. Formerly known as Neil Jarvis Band, Sprinters’ Last Song fittingly plays out the first side as an open jangle rock tune fashioned from nothing-to-hide vocals and sweet guitar work.
Side B begins with Two Skies’ Hypnotist, a psych-rock frenzy that sets the tempo for the second half of Blak Rainbow. Insanity Girl by The Electric Lazarus begins driven by crunching guitar and bass, Andy Pringle’s vocals deliver a sinister edge to this post-punk offering. Stoke-born psychonauts Psyence contribute with Hyde, a new track erupting with hard rock riffs and thrashing beats that capture the inexhaustible energy of their live show. Total Immersion by TVAM hurtles along an electronic autobahn with Kraut-driven synth and a motorik beat.
