An intimate, raw document of profound personal change, ‘Debris’, the debut single by Keeley Forsyth, starts looking to piece together what’s left behind. Lyrically it captures a tumultuous time for Forsyth, with minimal piano and string arrangements by pianist/composer Matthew Bourne placing that elemental voice front and centre.
Born and raised in Oldham, Keeley Forsyth made her name as an actor. While the creation of music has been a constant, she has taken the long road to finding its release – a deeply intuitive and singular musician, her songs are ripe with life experience. “They’re like blocks of metal that just drop from the sky,” she explains. “There was a lot going on in my life that was heavy and hard. Songs were made under that moment.”
The single ‘Debris’ is accompanied by a video directed by Maxine Peake. An album of the same name will follow on 17 January and is available for pre-order via Bandcamp
Maxine Peake describes the track and video saying: “It’s about a rebirth, new light and clearer light. A beautiful sun, flares, falling on the surrounding flora and fauna”.
