Leeds band Menace Beach “Holidays Are Heavy.” Listen to the song, and watch its accompanying video, on YouTube below:
Ryan from the band: “I love the winter cos I like wearing scarves and chucking snowballs at buses. This song is about the fact that even if you can’t buy presents and stuff for people, you can always find a way to look out for each other. I also somehow managed to make a chorus that I wanted to sound like Spiritualized, sound like Don Williams but that’s cool. Heehaw!”
Too Pure Singles have stuck “Holidays Are Heavy” on a 7” backed with another seasonal song of cheer by another ace Leeds band Cowtown. Pre-order from the wonderful Jumbo Records – it’ll make a great if awkwardly shaped stocking filler.
Here are Menace Beach’s final few shows of the year:
21 November – Vicenza, Italy, Vinile
15 December – London, Oslo, Memphis Industries “Lost Christmas” (with The Go! Team and Slug)
18 December – Derby, The Hairy Do
