Following the release of their debut LP ‘Egyptian Wrinkle’ on Hell, Yes! last month, Texan girl duo Boy Friend bring their heartbreaking ethereal haze of luscious melodies to the UK for the first time, including an appearances at Camden Crawl, Simple Things & Great Escape festivals as well as a Perfume Genius support slot.
The band also recently uploaded a self-made video for the album’s title track. As Prefix Mag explained “the dreamy clip places its esoteric visuals over the track’s morose, spaceous sound, all wrapped up in an appropriate, psychedelic, 90s home videos pastiche.”
Boy Friend is best buds Christa Palazzolo and Sarah Brown. With a creative partnership that combines different stylistic preferences and attitude with a passion for fantasy, narratives and ethereal, lovesick lyrics, their song writing is led by strong lead vocal and guitar melodies. Their layered in delicate harmonies, 80’s style ambiance, and thick atmospheric backdrops bring to mind a Cocteau Twins’ sense of dreamy excitement, whilst making a sound that is still uniquely their own.
The two have collaborated on several projects together in their 15 year friendship, but it wasn’t until the end of 2010 while going through the break-up from their last band Sleep ∞ Over that they regrouped to record their first EP as a duo.
