About Us
Silent Radio passionately profiling outstanding music – without the bore, cynicism or smugness of the mainstream media.
Born in Manchester in 2009 by a bunch of passionate music writers, Silent Radio has grown into one of the most popular, totally independent music websites in the North.
Known for its unbiased and anti-smug approach to music journalism, Silent Radio champions emerging musicians, smaller venues and DIY promoters through their handpicked monthly gig guide, live reviews, interviews and features. In 2014 the site launched a weekly live radio show that’s featured interviews with the likes of The Wave Pictures, The Lovely Eggs, Maxine Peake, Buzzcocks, Sleaford Mods, Kiran Leonard, Pins, Mark Morriss (The Bluetones), Steve Ignorant (Crass), Mark Burgess (The Chameleons), Sauna Youth, Abjects, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) and live sessions from a whole host of other acts.
We’re regular contributors to Manchester’s Off The Record Festival and also Liverpool Sound City Curators. Plus, Silent Radio features in the industry bible, “How to Write About Music: Excerpts from the 33 1/3 Series, Magazines, Books and Blogs with Advice from Industry-leading writers.
Amongst the writers are full time journalists, published authors, music students and lecturers. Silent Radio contributors don’t need a journalism degree, just an ear for a good tune and a huge love of music.
