Grey Lantern and Night & Day are teaming up to bring former Grammatics’ man Owen Brinley’s brilliantly shimmering electronic pop project, Department M, back to Manchester. Overcoming a longstanding tinnitus problem in the wake of his former band’s demise, and with a still on-going stint in fellow Leeds’ act Stalking Horse under his belt; Brinley’s new solo project took flight in 2012 and has since sold out singles on Too Pure and released a critically-acclaimed mini-album through Fierce Panda late last year.
Supporting are exciting new Mancunian outfit Hartheim. Still in their infancy, the five-piece have tuned heads early doors with their panoramic torch ballad ‘Yellow’, which has already received airplay from Mary Anne-Hobbs on BBC 6music before the group have even played a live show. That all changes this Friday, with Hartheim’s debut on the live circuit one of the most anticipated in some time.
Forming in late 2012, U.V.’s Zandra Klievens and Jonjo Feather lurk in the dark twilight margins of electronic pop, Klievens aerial vocal flitting in and out of mechanically constructed motifs and heavy atmospheres. After performing a stirring set in support of Patterns at St. Philip’s Church in March, we can’t wait for them to open this show.
