The 2Ube
Bands across the North West are set to get a boost thanks to a new musical showcase launched by the performing arts school set up by Paul McCartney.
The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts has set up The 2Ube, which will feature a different band every Friday.
The project, which is inspired by the Channel 4 show The Tube, will see the band perform a set at the LIPA cafe, in Mount Street, which will also be streamed online.
One of the band’s tracks will also be shared online, to give them as much exposure as possible.
This will then culminate in the first The 2Ube Extra Festival, which will take place in April.
The three week event will feature four bands each night, who will perform live sets and be interviewed as part of the event.
Keith Mullen, a former member of Liverpool band The Farm, who is now a music lecturer at LIPA, is the man behind The 2Ube.
He says the project hopes to channel the spirit of the late pioneering DJ John Peel.
Keith said: “The 2Ube is a bastion of cultural diversity, a great breeding ground for new acts, in many ways it adopts a John Peel approach to music, not specialist or genre specific, in that, you never know what you’re going to get.”
The next band to be featured as part of The 2Ube is Tiger Factory, a Liverpool based hip-hop five-piece.
Some of the bands featured have members who attend LIPA, while others have been scouted by the people behind the project.
