As a human being it would be hard to ignore the events that took place in Paris last night, but as a music website these occurrences throughout the world don’t necessarily make the pages of Silent Radio, but yesterday changed all that.
It’s reported that 80 gig goers were killed at Le Bataclan during an Eagles Of Death Metal show. The venue is nowhere near stadium size, its capacity is just 1500, the same capacity as Manchester’s Ritz, the very same venue where EoDM played last weekend. How many of us have been to gigs there or to venues of a similar size? I myself was at The Ritz just a few weeks ago and to think gig goers have become targets is very scary.
Thoughts of the gig I’m going to tonight have been affected, as I’m sure it has for many other people going out gigging tonight as well. A lot of us use music as an escape, but this escape has been intruded upon.
As a gig goer it has affected me, but doubly so as the editor of Silent Radio. We sent a writer to last week’s EoDM show in Manchester, that means it’s highly likely that editors of publications/websites in Paris did exactly the same last night. On many levels it’s horrifying.
Our deepest sympathies are with all those affected by last night’s events, not just those at the Paris gig.
