Tom Hingley of Inspiral Carpets fame is releasing his first single in three years for Record Store Day 2016, Saturday 16 April. All proceeds from the 7” of ‘Beggar’s Hand’ sold in Manchester and Liverpool go towards two local charities, Lifeshare in Manchester and Hope Fest in Liverpool. Both charities work with homeless people, providing food and emergency items for rough sleepers at a grassroots level.
Tom has been a supporter of Lifeshare for a while, having played their Christmas Project last year. Lifeshare team leader Judith Vickers says they’re “over the moon that he is releasing a single for Record Store Day… which will enable Lifeshare to continue working towards breaking the cycle of homelessness, promoting health and reducing harm.”
Hope Fest’s Anna Grace Henney agrees. “Hope Fest is honoured to be working alongside the Tom Hingley Band to raise funds… to help towards running training programme for people who have experienced homelessness. The training programmes offer work experience at our annual music festival and the transferable skills attendees gain can help toward finding employment and shelter.”
As if that wasn’t enough, Tom will be playing in-store gigs on RSD at Vinyl Revival in Manchester at 9:30am and 3B Records in Liverpool at 2pm. He also plays at the Ruby Lounge on 21 April. Just as importantly, ‘Beggar’s Hand’ is a really ace, anthemic slab of rock.
