From time to time, one of our contributors will recommend an artist/band they think deserves your attention. No record labels, PR companies, bands or band’s management will ever have made these recommendations. It is simply one music fan putting their taste on the line in the hope of sharing good music. The questions are intended to give just a basic introduction to possibly your new favourite artist/band.
So without further ado, let’s crack on with another introduction, in which Silent Radio’s Victoria Turnbull recommends Birds Of Hell for your audible delectation.
Who are ya?
Pete Murdoch
Where are you from?
Norfolk
How long have you been doing what you’re doing now?
3 years
Is being a musician your full time job?
Yes
Are there any obvious influences in your music?
The obvious ones are in the lyrics: my family, childhood memories, politics, dogging, 1980’s American tough guys.
Are there any not so obvious influences in your music?
Ariel Pink, Sonic Youth, Sleaford Mods, Stereolab, the American humourist David Sedaris. Smoking and drinking, podcasts, a balanced diet.
Any musical Guilty Pleasures? Come on you can share, we’re all friends here!
Yes, my pleasures shouldn’t be guilty, but telling people i like ‘The Music Sounds Better With You’ by Stardust, is well embarrassing.
Apart from yourself of course, what other band/artist would you recommend our readers check out?
Alice Coltrane. And my mate Ben C Winn who writes funny poetry.
Tell us about the defining moment when you thought ‘Fuck, yes I want to be a musician!’
Not sure. When I was still at school. Probably after smoking dope for the first time.
Does what go on, on tour, stay on tour?
You mean regrettable sex and/or violence? I don’t know, I take it on a case by case basis.
What’s your most favouritist gig (as a gig goer), like, ever?
The Flaming Lips about 6 years ago in Birmingham. I felt ill and hideous before they played and cleansed and full of love after.
Who, in your wildest dreams would you like to collaborate with/be produced by?
The Flaming Lips or Bjork.
Best place for people to find out what you are up to?

Anything to declare?
I’m playing a gig in a government nuclear bunker next week.
