Sound City have just revealed even more live acts and some exciting additions to the arts and culture programme for its tenth anniversary. This includes Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess, who will be joined by the band’s guitarist Mark Collins for a special performance at the Tim Peaks Diner on Sunday. As well as treating fans to hits from their huge back catalogue, all of The Charlatans will also be signing copies of the highly anticipated new album Different Days.
True to its roots of supporting and showcasing the very best emerging talent, Sound City have also added over 40 exciting new acts to an already vast, and radically diverse bill. There will be performances by feted indie dance crossover Formation, Mancunian indie outfit Cupids, self-proclaimed ‘heavy pop’ band Estrons, alt-rock 3 piece Yak, singer/songwriter John Joseph Brill, Slang, Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes, rising R&B sensation XamVolo, Stockport troubadour Rory Wynne, Liverpool rockers Zuzu, Sugarmen, and The Jackobins, and upcoming Australia’s Tired Lion, and Gang of Youths.
The festival again welcomes a host of hot showcases with Leeds College of Music presenting Lucy Whittaker, Laminated Pet Animal, Lucy Rycroft, The Golden Age of TV, and Santino, POP Montreal with Pierre Kwenders and Mozart’s Sister, SESAC have Yak, LA Salami, and Echotape, and Alya Records showcase Music from Yorkshire featuring Fizzy Blood, I Set the Sea on Fire, Tremmors, and Violet Contours.
After winning the Best Festival for Emerging Talent at the UK Festival Awards, Liverpool Sound City have partnered with the Unsigned Music Awards, to become the exclusive media partner for unsigned talent. And following a record number of applicants for this tenth anniversary blowout, the festival will be presenting performances from the bands that applied to play their international emerging talent, this includes Wuzi, Paves, Sleep Taking Rozelle, The Bongo Club, Barron, Marvin Powell, Wild Fruit Art Collective, Killason, The Barbarettes, Cleo T, and amongst many more.
Sound City have also announced some exciting additions to the wider arts programme including a co-commission between Sound City, bluedot, and The Kazimier. Shrouded in enigmatic mystery the performance will only be revealed at the event but is likely to be absolutely mind-blowing if previous Kazimier happenings are anything to go by.
Elsewhere The Martini Lounge are bringing their cabaret of delights to The Tim Peaks Diner Tent, featuring Chinese acrobatics from Edd Muir, burlesque Bump’n’Grind from the marvellous Millie Dollar, with an array of other acts thrown into the mix and all hosted by Fred Bear.
Continental Drifts are presenting some of the Global Local rosta, including Fandjango, and KOG + The Zongo Brigade. They are also joining local carnival starters Fiesta Bombarda, to do a very tropical collaboration that includes a carnival procession with BYOB, ending in a battle of the brass on The Baltic Stage.
Katumba are headlining the Cavern Stage on the Sunday. This includes a pied piper like trail through the festival site, returning to join up with the rest of the troop, and their very special collaboration with Bring The Fire Project, resulting in what will be an unmissable spectacle of fire and beats.
Sound City CEO Dave Pichilingi said: “This anniversary spectacular just gets better and better. We’re tremendously proud of what we’ve achieved over the last decade and what Sound City has become and I don’t hesitate for a moment to say this is going to be our biggest and best event to date and we still have more to announce. Don’t miss out, it’s going to be incredible.”
