Doc’N Roll Shorts
Doc’n Roll, the UK’s Music Documentary Festival, returns for its fifth London edition with a dazzlingly diverse programme running from 1 to 18 November across twelve of the city’s best-loved cinemas.
Along with a premiere selection of the best new feature music documentaries, Doc’n Roll also presents an exciting short film programme. They are delighted to be working with House of Vans for a specially curated night of premiere shorts on Thursday 8 November. There will also be a couple of shorts screening prior to feature films during the main festival.
The free entry House Of Vans event will feature a varied selection of short music documentary premieres on subjects ranging from Glasgow rapper Lumo (who took his own life aged just 21 years old), to an animated tale of The Velvet Underground’s first public performance, a portrait of The Charlatans’ Tony Rogers, forgotten 60s garage icons The Rising Storm, a film documenting afrobeat drum legend Tony Allen and a poignant exploration of Romani musicians meeting jazz legends.
Free tickets will be available from the 22nd October.
Ahead of the She-Punks screening on Saturday 10 November at the Genesis cinema, there will be a screening of To The Front: Scenes From a Women’s Rock Camp, in which women with no previous experience have three days to learn an instrument, form a band and play live at Britain’s inaugural rock camp, featuring featuring Liv Wynter, Kate Nash and Brigitte Aphrodite. There will also be a premiere screening of Claudio Fasoli’s Innersounds ahead of the showing of Pure Love: The Voice of Ella Fitzgerald at Bertha Doc House on Sunday 18 November. The film explores the creative processes of jazz musician Claudio Fasoli.
Doc’n Roll Film Festival was launched in 2014 by founder Colm Forde to show some long-overdue love to the countless under-the-radar music docs being ignored by risk-averse film programmers. Post-screening Q&As, DJ sets and live music themed on the films add to the overall cinematic experience.
