Lara Smiles new track Zombie has been unveiled and is now available for download in the run-up to Halloween, with a release party at The Shacklewell Arms in London on October 27. The track is released via Wonky Pop Records and was produced by Smiles and mixed by Jamie Grashion (Black Grape, The Orb, Killing Joke)
Already depicted as ‘an industro pop alchemist’ by NME, Smiles unleashes a riot of electronic mayhem with her new track ‘Zombie’ as underlying beats unleash an unruly anarchic intro, creating a sense of the unexpected, while she blends colourful layers of alt rock with electronics. It could be the perfect beginning to a sci-fi movie – as the protagonist realises their zombie potential, before spiralling guitars denote a moment of unhinged and deranged madness, as the inner zombie takes over.
Zombie is Lara’s Halloween seasonal gift, as the protagonist in the video – an office worker who just can’t take anymore turns into a zombie fuelled city worker. In this depiction of modern life, where Suits meets Walking Dead, affected by a combination of corporate greed and politics, the city worker is consumed and escapes the alienating corporate world and is seduced by the esoteric just in time for Halloween.
It’s a testament to Smiles’s versatility that she’s been called on to support indie icon Pete Doherty and collaborate with ambient house pioneers The Orb. She has played at some of the biggest festivals, including Glastonbury,Isle of Wight and The Great Escape, her influences vary from: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Prodigy, The Strokes, Lauren Hill, Paul Simon to LCD Soundsystem.
