Swedish minimal techno maestro Axel Willner, aka The Field, is bringing his live show to Manchester this week to support his recently released sixth studio album Infinite Moment.
Berlin based Willner spins out his tracks to epic lengths (most of his tracks are at least 8 mins long, and none of his LPs go beyond 6 tracks), looping repetitive grooves and samples to create hypnotic techno tracks that can verge on the ambient, but he’s not adverse to dropping some bangers as well.
He’s well versed in pop, and on 2009’s Yesterday and Today he turned The Korgis’ 1980 classic ‘Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometimes’ into a shimmering downbeat techno workout that somehow works incredibly well. He’s remixed tracks for the likes of Interpol, Wild Beasts, Thom Yorke and Battles, and is generally an all-round electronic hero.
Playing The Pink Room at Now Wave’s great new venue Yes, on November 28, it should make for a mesmerizing, atmospheric night out. Tickets are still available.
